DARLINGTON THROWBACK
The Nascar throwback Race is a nod to the 1990s where the Drivers and Teams choose a vintage paint scheme to represent on their car . Since Jimmie raced Off-Road trucks at the time,, he wanted to use a piece of his own history for the weekend.
In 1995 Jimmie was leading the Baja 1000. After 20 plus hours into the Race, he fell asleep and experienced a severe crash. Luckily, he and his co-driver were ok, but it took over 12 hours before anyone could find them. Jimmie claims he learned more by crashing that day than he would have winning, and believes this was a significant turning point in his career.
Jimmie bought the truck (which he named Butch) in 2011 with the intention of restoring it because it was never fixed after the wreck in ‘95. It was a special sight seeing Butch rip around the dirt track followed by the classic Thunder Paint Scheme placed on Jimmie’s number 48 Ally Chevy.
